Job Summary:
The Human Resource Specialist is a key component of DECA’s efforts to continue to attract and retain exceptionally talented people who are excited about our mission. This person will support the development and implementation of a comprehensive recruitment strategy and is responsible for the sourcing, attracting, interviewing, and hiring of new members of the DECA staff. This person will administer the interview and onboarding process to ensure a seamless and positive hiring process for new employees and manage key human resource office tasks including benefits enrollment and human resources systems. This position reports to the Deputy Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or Education or equivalent work experience
- Two years of human resources, talent acquisition, and interviewing experience preferred
- Strong understanding of staffing principles, laws, and procedures and a solid working knowledge of recruitment/employment programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of various recruiting techniques, and experience in online/social media recruiting.
- Ideal candidates will have experience working in K-12 schools.
- Proven ability to communicate and effectively “sell” an organization’s value proposition.
- Must possess excellent oral/written communication, marketing, presentation, interviewing and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills, including using database and applicant tracking systems.
- Strong customer service, negotiation skills and ability to interact with employees at all levels throughout the company.
- Self-starter with excellent time management, multitasking and organizational skills.
- Strong work ethic and sense of integrity, trustworthiness and ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Creative in brainstorming and proposing new ideas and solutions to existing problems.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to create, monitor, and maintain systems that enhance the efficiency of the organization.
- Able to drive for results and manage shifting priorities with very little direction.
- Willing and able to travel occasionally, including overnight travel.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develops, facilitates, and implements all phases of the recruitment process.
- Collaborates with department managers to identify and draft detailed and accurate job descriptions and hiring criteria.
- Implements the talent recruitment and retention strategy.
- Execute aspects of the overall human resource programs including benefits enrollment, employee leave, initial compensation recommendations, hiring incentives, and employee record keeping.
- Identifies and implements efficient and effective recruiting methods and strategies based on the available role, industry standards, and the needs of the organization.
- Ensures compliance with state and federal licensing requirements while maintaining accurate personnel records.
- Maintains an active pool of applicants for high leverage positions.
- Manages the job posting and advertisement processes.
- Proactively source and engage passive prospects and past applicants to maintain a consistent pipeline of candidates
- Screens applications and selects qualified candidates.
- Schedules interviews; oversees preparation of interview questions and other hiring and selection materials.
- Assists with the interview process, attending and conducting interviews with managers, principals, directors, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborates with the manager and/or Deputy Superintendent during the offer process, identifying and recommending salary ranges, incentives, start dates, and other pertinent details.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and company policies.
- Represents DECA at recruiting events, including job fairs.
- Builds relationships with local colleges to promote awareness of employment opportunities at DECA.
- Supports the new employee onboarding process, including support with the New Teacher Orientation program.
- Reviews and advises on the talent acquisition process with managers and Deputy Superintendent regularly to determine the effectiveness of the recruiting process.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment:
- 260 days
- Salary to be determined based on experience and education level.
- 10 vacation & 3 personal days
- All staff members are issued one-year contracts.
Working Environment:
Workplace locations include:
- School, activity center, outdoor play areas;
- Retreat/field sites; and
- Other environments as deemed necessary/appropriate.
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of his/her job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and/or hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
Additional Working Conditions:
- The noise level in this work environment is quiet to loud depending on the activity and location.
- Working conditions for this job include (1) possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue; and (2) occasional operation of a motor vehicle to transport students.
