The Dayton Early College Academy (DECA) is an award-winning, high performing network of charter schools located in Dayton, Ohio. We serve students in grades K-12 in the Dayton Public School area; academic proficiency is not considered during the admissions process. Admission is first come, first served.

Summary: Drives van to transport students over specified routes according to time schedule. Drives safely and complies with traffic regulations. This employee reports to the DECA Operations Director.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED). College degree preferred.
- Must present driving record that meets minimum requirements of District insurance carrier.
- Hold a valid driver’s license and ability to drive a school van following all safety regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and the administration.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students.
- Ability to read and understand maps.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and DECA Governing Board policies.
- Must have a satisfactory background check consistent with state and federal laws.
Contracted Duties:
- Drives a school van safely and professionally.
- Supervises students while transporting them.
- Performs and properly completes daily pre-trip inspections.
- Complies with all traffic ordinances.
- Complies with discipline policies set forth in the School Code of Conduct.
- Demonstrates patience, neatness, friendliness, kindness, and courteousness.
- Participates in on-site training.
- Show proficiency in handling and maneuvering school vans.
- Remains free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace.
- Serves as role model for students and District employees.
- Other duties may be assigned.

While performing the duties of this contract, the employee is continuously required to sit and occasionally required to walk or stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee frequently repeats the same hand, arm, or finger motion many times. The employee frequently uses hand strength to grasp tools and is continuously driving to fulfill this contracted service. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, such as students. Specific vision abilities required by this contracted service include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.

While performing the duties of this contracted service, the employee occasionally works in temperatures about 100 degrees and below 32 degrees and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other workers. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud when you have to raise your voice to be heard.
Additional working conditions include (1) possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue; and (2) daily operation of a vehicle to transport students.

Terms of Contract:
- Contract determined based on number of days and total hours needed to transport students.
- Contract may be terminated by either party with ten days notice.
